PageSpinner 4.5.1 Release Notes

New features and enhancements in PageSpinner 4.5.1:

Links to JPEG 2000 images and MPEG Movies files can now be created by dropping the file onto the PageSpinner application icon

Support for rooted base paths when previewing Server Side Includes files

PageSpinner's Save to Web server command now supports uploading files to servers with the FTPeel FTP client from www.freshlysqueezedsoftware.com

Added support for previewing files with Netscape 7.1 (previews in Netscape 7.0.x are no longer supported in OS X)

Fixed a bug with Safari 1.0 locking certain preview files

The JavaScript Event Handlers and JavaScript sub-menus (available in the JavaScript palette) are now again also available from the Tags menu

The Find and Replace in Folder... script will now work with files without proper Mac OS file types and files created by other applications

Fixed a bug with Undo/Redo not setting the document as modified

PageSpinner will no longer display a warning about the filename when creating .css files

Fixed a bug when trying to select a tag to delete using the Backspace or the Forward Delete key when the "Tag Selectable" mode is chosen in the Editor Preferences.

PageSpinner will no longer occasionally display a warning while selecting a tag using Backspace or Forward Delete when "Tag Selectable" is chosen in the Editor Preferences.

Editor improvements

Support for syntax color coding of CSS, JavaScript and PHP

New editor modes for CSS, JavaScript and PHP files for improved performance of the new syntax coloring

Support for viewing local files served by a web server with the Preview command. This may be very useful when working with PHP, SSI and CGIs that are processed on a web server. You can also specify the parameters to send to the server that processes the page.

Support for live scrolling

New Text Zoom buttons in the editor and Notebook window. You may press the Option key when clicking one of the Zoom buttons to return to the default font size set in the Font Preferences.

Faster restyling of text and HTML markup

A new PHP menu that can insert basic PHP functions and control structures is available from the Tags menu

A Lookup PHP Function command is available in the Find button pulldown menu in the toolbar. The command lets you lookup the documentation for the selected PHP function in the editor in the Online PHP manual at www.php.org

The tag editing mode Tags Selectable will automatically become disabled in the PHP and JavaScript editor modes to prevent automatic selection of parts of scripts when typing < and >

New Commands

The new PageSpinner Starting Points dialog helps to create different kinds of files, to open files and to access PageSpinner's preferences

Repeat last command added in the Edit menu

Revert to last saved menu item added in the File menu

Open Recent Files menu added to the File menu

Remove double spaces command added in the Text Tools menu

A Run Selection as Command item in the Text Tools menu lets you run the selected text as a Unix command and inserts the results in the editor window on OS X

Better Preferences, Script and Plug-Ins management

All preferences, user tags, web site settings, user plug-in extensions, user aliases, user scripts, backup files and Notebook pages are now stored inside the new "PageSpinner User Data" folder inside your Documents folder. This change makes it much easier to keep your customized settings, scripts, aliases and plug-ins when upgrading to new versions of PageSpinner.

Settings for up to 40 web sites can now be stored in the Web Site Preferences

Support for choosing XHTML mode in the Default Editor Options. The setting will also be used in the CSS, JavaScript and PHP editor modes.

Added an option to set PageSpinner as the System's default ftp-editor in Preferences : Default Filing Options...

The OS X Shell menu in the palette contains the following items:

Run Selection as Command executes text selected in the editor or Notebook as a Unix shell command and inserts the result directly into the editor window

Run Selection in Terminal executes selected text as a Unix command in the Mac OS X Terminal application

Run File as Shell Script will run the contents of the active document's file as a shell script in Mac OS X Terminal

The Telnet and the SSH (secure shell) menu items may be used to login in to the Unix-based shell on your Web server if your server or hosting service supports these options.

The OS X Apache menu contains commands that allows you to open folders used by the Mac OS X Apache Web Server and edit the Apache Web server settings with the pico editor in the Terminal.

Other improvements

The keyboard shortcut for the Non Breaking Space entity is now Control+Command+Space

There is now an option in the General Preferences to use Command+Option+ 9 and 0 to shift text to the left and right (to work around a bug with the non-functional Command+Option+8 keyboard shortcut in OS X 1.2)

The AppleScript property PageSpinner folder will now return the PageSpinner User Data Folder. The new AppleScript property App folder can be used to retrieve the folder of the application.
